Up to 20 MiB, 12 megapixels and 12,000 px per side. EXIF orientation is applied. PDF, HEIC and animated images are not supported.

Prepare for a better read

Choose the layout that matches your selection. Tables and columns may not keep their original reading order.

Use rotation for sideways or upside-down text. Automatic straightening handles small tilts only. Enlargement may help small text, but cannot recover blurred or missing detail.

Start with original colors; OCR already handles ordinary light paper. Thresholding can erase thin strokes. Inspect the OCR input preview after changing it.

Select a text region

Drag across the image in “Select region” view, or enter pixel coordinates here. Coordinates refer to the original image after EXIF orientation, before the rotation above.

Choose an image to begin.

The first run downloads several MB of OCR engine and English model files from this site. Image processing stays on your device. One recognition runs at a time, with a 3-minute OCR timeout.

See it. Read it. Check it.

OCR can misread names, numbers and punctuation. Review against the image before using the result.

Your image and text stay with you. Recognition uses a local browser worker. No uploads, accounts, saved drafts or remote OCR. Engine/model files may be cached by your browser; your document is not stored by this tool. Remove the image or leave this page to clear its image, text and downloads.

Give OCR something clear to read.

  1. Start with a sharp image

Use a clear screenshot or a straight photo with even lighting. Select the English text region. For a PDF page, use PDF to Images first.

  2. Match the layout

Choose automatic page, a single block, scattered text or one line. Rotate until the text is upright. Try enlargement for small letters and preview any enhancement before running OCR.

  3. Review and reuse

Check the recognized text against the image, especially names and numbers. Edit it here, then copy or download a UTF-8 text file. Running OCR again replaces the text only when a new result is ready.

Useful extraction, with clear limits.

What does this OCR recognize?

This version uses an English model and is intended for printed English text in screenshots, scans and photos. It does not translate. Handwriting, decorative fonts, formulas, very small text and blurred photos can produce poor results.

Is the confidence score an accuracy percentage?

No. It is the OCR engine’s estimate, not a measured accuracy score. A confident result can still contain incorrect digits or words. Proofread every important field; suggested review words are not an exhaustive error list.

What happens to formatting?

The download is plain text, not Word, Excel or a searchable PDF. Line breaks and some spacing are preserved, but tables, columns and reading order may change. Recognize separate columns or text areas when automatic layout is unsuitable.

Why did it return no text or nonsense?

Check the language, rotation and layout. Crop closer to the text and try 2× scale. Disable aggressive thresholding if it erases strokes. For gray or uneven paper, try Document Scan Cleanup. OCR cannot reconstruct text that is not legible.

How large can the prepared image be?

After cropping, scaling, rotation and a small white border, the OCR image must stay within 16 megapixels and 8,000 px per side. Invalid settings disable recognition instead of silently reducing resolution. Large images can consume substantial memory, especially on phones.

How do cancellation and privacy work?

Cancel terminates the OCR worker, including startup and model loading. Browser image decoding and PNG preparation may finish their current step before being discarded. Failed or cancelled reruns keep the previous text. Models are served from this site; image contents and extracted text are never sent to an OCR server.
